Parliamentary Private Secretaries are appointed by each Minister to assist him or her in their parliamentary duties but receive no extra salary. Some PPSs are assigned to a group of Ministers in a department rather than an individual. PPSs are expected to vote with the Government and to keep a low profile in the House. A PPS cannot, for exaMP.le, be a member of a select committee or table an amendment to a Government Bill
