State of Eitrea
(Female suffrage 1955 as part of Ethiopia) The territory was colonized by Italy in the late 19th century, it became a British Protectorate in 1941, 1952 incorporated in Ethiopia which became a federation. In 1962 Emperor Haile Sellasie II withdrew the high degree of autonomy and incorporated Ethiopia as a Province, thereby starting a civil war which ended in de-facto independence in 1991, which was recognized in 1992
